I love to cook, to spend hours making meals for others but have no appetite myself. I now am deeply depressed (long time sufferer) and am seeking help again. My partner thinks the fact I dont eat is distorting my thoughts and feels starving myself is a possibly the only thing i feel i can control. I want to eat like a normal person but can't put most food in mouth, if i try i wretch.
Answer:
I suffer from depression and I don't eat, somtimes for days or weeks on end. Some people are effected in the opposite way and comfort eat, but it is just as likely to have either effect.
Someone once told me to try and view eating as you would putting petrol in a car..... without petrol the car doesn't run - without food the body doesn't cope.
That said, it doesn't always help me, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I know that when I stop eating it does have an impact on my mental health, the same when I'm not sleeping well.. it is harder for the mind and body to deal with other symptoms if it hasn't got the basic things it needs to function.
I'm glad that you are seeking help again for your depression, as it sounds like you need some support.
Medication and or talking therapies may be the way to go, but also consider finding other sources of support as well.
I have had great help over the years from my local Mind association, and now count myself as priveleged to work for them.
They are easy to access, just give them a ring, they are informal but have lots of knowledge and information, and they offer all kinds of different services.
Try this link to see if you have one near you
http://www.mind.org.uk/mind+in+your+area...
It is also possible that they run or have information on Carers support groups that might be useful for your partner.
I have also given some links for information from the website, that might help you

Please try and get yourself as much help and support as you possibly can. It is out there, if you know where to look for it.
You need and deserve the best treatment you can get, and having support to go alongside any medical treatment really will prove enormously beneficial.
I know from personal experience!
you need to go to a support group. your not going to manage to change your attitude yourself.
You need psychological help. Anorexia sufferers for some bizarre reason like to think they can control hunger for food acting obssessively compulsive too.
Hi
I have depression too - but for me I have the opposite relationship with food
Just can't stop eating.
I have recently started an online Cognitive Behavioual Therapy course on line (I won't give you the details as I am not 100% happy with it) and although its not entirely right I can see that CBT will help me to start understanding my warped thoughts and hopefully move on. Maybe you should discuss a referral to a CBT counsellor with your GP.
well think you have to eat and some foods are helping your body in everyday life like fruits and rice bread meat .
i don't know why you may not have an appetite maybe your trying to lose weight pregnant go ask your doc for some advice maybe its a change of lifestyle something that you've experienced all sorts like those
These symptoms do sound typical of Anorexia Nervosa.
The 'accepted wisdom' seems to be that this MAY have to do with 'control', so maybe this has influenced you or your thinking too. Perhaps establishing the fact that you do have control over other areas of life would be useful. This may well require certain compliance and support and assistance from your partner.
Many cooks/chefs also eat poorly because of spending too much time working with foods they have no appetite when it comes to eating it (alternatively they may be just the opposite -- they just eat all the time and end up putting weight on!)
You should try eating things that take no time to prepare at all and also allow someone else to make meals for you -- perhaps this will help! In other words 'If you can't stand to eat, get out of the kitchen'! (to paraphrase an old saying!!)
Try adopting a a largely unprocessed, raw-food diet for a while. this will be easier in summer timne when it may not seem such an imposition to eat cold foods. Plenty of fruit, vegetables and try and get organic, local grown fresh-as-possible produce.
Try not to 'think' about the process of eating. Try and do it whilst doing something else (like watching a film or TV) so that you are not focussed on the actiual act of eating. If you have plenty of fruit, nuts (especially almonds, wallnuts, hazel nuts, brazils), and vegetables on hand that you can 'graze' on them through the day without making it 'a big deal' of great preparation, laying tables, sitting to eat a meal, etc, etc, maybe this will 'de-stress' your eating routine and make it easier for you to start eating again 'naturally'.
Above and beyond this, make sure you are properly hydarated by drinking a couple of litres of clean, pure (preferably mineral water) gradually through the day (a cup an hour is about right).
Some other useful lifestyle tips that might help at:
You could try taking a vitamin once a day, and reading that you said, most foods make you wretch, how about concentrating on those few foods that you do keep down, or can suffer to swallow...and allow yourself to eat a bit more each time.
If you really want to, you'll get where you want to be, if you are in two minds about it, you'll struggle against yourself. This may be because of an underlying belief, one which has been forgotten, to do with the 'unknown future' ie, we'll all be happy today if we / i do this or that, so I want to.but what if it goes wrong in a different way tomorrow? What's the point? It's not worth it, so I won't bother...
What do you think about what your partner said about control?
Do you have as much input as you want in everyday decisions etc,
We may not be able to 'control' tomorrow, but as today is built and rests on endless yesterdays, so does tomorrow, rest on each today, our efforts/decisions/achievements today, included.
There is a great book called 'Body Clutter' which is about our emotional relationships with food. You can read testimonials and order the book from www.flylady.com
Best wishes.
It's the depression honey.
Some binge, but some can't eat, like you.
Have you tried therapy? It really does help!!
Good Luck x x
it sounds like u could have an eatin disorder, bt not necessarily intentionaly. u say u are depressed. ur not eatin is the one thing that u feal u are in control of, bt its not always the best way to gain control. i'm glad to hear that u are seekin help this really will help and make a difference. i had an eatin disorder n slight depression. the way that i got through it all was by seein a phycartrist n basically sharin my thoughts with everyone i knew. by openin up they gave me insights i had never looked at before n it really did help. i agree with ur partner that by not eatin this is effectin your thoughts. although food gives us the basic nutrients of life they can also release endo-orphins which makes us happy. i can understand where your comin from, but dont let food control ur life, i did that and it was horrible, i couldn't b happy, i couldnt laugh with my friends i just felt so depressed. although in my case not eatin was a way of controllin my weight, now however with lots of help and support i can see that there is more important things in life. i'm only 15 now, i dont want to go down that road again, i've learnt to become more care free and have a positive view on life. i'm not sayin it was easy, even when i got over my eatin disorder i still suffered depression but seein a phycartrist does help and sharin ur fealings with others, as just by gettin the weight off ur chest can make i big difference. i no u can get through this. dont let food control ur life, there is so much more to life that just food, i no what ur goin through is hard and it will take time, bt just make u get help. hope at least some of this helps.

How can I change from effexor to prozac?
I'm leaving the country and I finish my effexor pills I can't get more refill because I'll be out of the country for a while..I have a whole month of Prozac pills and I wonder if I can change from effexor to prozac ..I used to take prozac before with good result and my Dr change to Effexor because I was getting them for free.. now My question is Can I start taking prozac (20mg) which I was taking before since I finish Effexor (75mg)??
I don't want to go for a long time without medicine since I get panic attacks.. I need your help! I won't see a DR until probably a month from now when I get insurance there...
Answer:
In a case like this you need to talk to your doctor. You can't just switch them from one to the other without a doctor's approval anyway. If you have Prozac already, I wouldn't recommend stopping the Effexor and starting the Prozac again without at least talking to a doctor or pharmacist. Just call your local pharmacy and explain your situation. The pharmacist will be glad to give you some advice.
You should talk to your current doctor ASAP and see if you can get enough samples of Effexor to get you through until you get a new doctor. It's not safe to switch drugs on your own like that, especially that abruptly. Effexor can have wicked withdrawl symptoms.

HOW can i calm myself down?
when i ride my horse i always think shes going to TRIP! when im galloping what can i do to not think about that! :%26#92;
Answer:
Well. You have many options as I see it. Firstly, stop riding - which you most likely do not want to do as you continue to ride even though you are afraid. Secondly, but faith in your horse as it is out of your control. Thirdly, use imaginary exercises before you ride - see the ride from beginning to the end. Fourthly, deep breathing exercises - great for any situation where you are afraid. Fifthly, find out the real reason you feel she is going to trip - has she done it before, if yes when - what was it caused by - has she done it again, are you afriad of yourself being hurt or her being hurt, have you seen someone else's horse tripping - did someone else get hurt and you are just assuming that you may get hurt??
Good Luck
Repeat this in your head: "I'm not going to trip, I'm not going to trip, I can do this!"
Try wearing head phone and listen to a song you really enjoy. This way you pay more attention on the song than her tripping.
Has she ever tripped before?
SORRY FOR NOT ANSWERING
Has your horse ever tripped before? If not why are you worried? It sounds like you have fear while riding, which can be a natural reaction to not being in total control. Let's face it they are big animals and strong.
You basically need to self talk yourself and remind yourself that it is ridiculous for you think this way. Horses sense fear in the rider and will react to it. So get a hold of your fears, it could make things worse for you.

How can I calm down when I have a panic attack?
I shake, get a rapid heartbeat, feel detached from my body, and I cannot stop moving. This happens often.
Answer:
It might be a good idea to find out what's causing you to panic. Anxiety and panic are usually symptoms of a problem like anemia, thyroid problems, hypoglycemia, hormone imbalances, a high sugar/caffeine diet, to name a few. Has anyone tested you for these problems?
Get a prescription for xanax. I have one and whenever i take one when I'm freakin out, it helps A LOT. I have the pink ones. take one of those and you'll be good for a few hours. i have a pretty high tolerance though for them cuz i sometimes seem to flip out a lot when it comes to my anxiety disorder
concentration and staring at a light source help me .
there's a great book called "the anxiety and phobia workbook" it really gets in-depth about how to deal with panic attacks
Take deep breaths and convince yourself that everything is good. Imagine something calming. I'm not a psychologist, but this works for me! ;)
masterbate
I got these drops from the health food store. You put them on your tongue. They are called "calming remedy" or something but if you ask your pharmacist they should know. They are great when I have a pannic attack.
One way is deep breathing. Learn to breathe deeply during the time you are calm. It can be easier to remember to breathe when you are panicking, if you do some deep breathing every day just for practice.
Take a deep breath when you feel it coming on. Force yourself to breathe slowly and to exhale slowly for a minute or two. Inhale to the count of ten and exhale to the count of ten within 8 or 10 seconds. Sometimes breathing into a paperbag (NOT plastic) will help so that you don't hyperventilate. You'll slow down your heart's pace doing this and you will re-oxygenate your body doing this. This WILL calm you down so you can focus.
In the moment, try to mentally detach yourself from whatever is happening, slow down, and do this deep breathing exercise: breath in through your nose to a count of 4, hold for a count of 7, release through your mouth to a count of 8. If you can do this 4 times in a row, you will feel much better. Continue breathing like this until you feel much better - and THEN, make an appointment to see your doctor - he/she can better help you in the long-term. Take care.
I've been taught to breathe in slowly through the nose for two seconds counting like one one thousand, two one thousand. and then exhale through the mouth slowly for four seconds counting the same way. While you're doing this rate your panick attack from 1-10. Whatever it is, imagine it going down from like a 10 to a 9 then to an 8 then to a 7 and so on and so on until you feel yourself calm down to a 1 or a 0. I learned this from the Midwest Center for anxiety and depression. You might've seen it on paid advertising late at night. It may be a bit expensive but it really helped me a lot. You should check it out. Theres a lot more people out there that suffer from anxiety than you would think. I hope that my advice makes sense and helps you out.
The drops Bluegirl was talking about are called Bach Rescue Remedy and you can get this at the health food store.
How religious are you? I had or have anxiety disorder. If I get to flustered I cannot think. When things get me down, such as seeing a teacher for my children, or losing a house, It does not matter how big or small the problem. I have to lay down, because my body gets so tight, that I am in constant pain.
I have learned to lay down, and pray to G-d and trust in Him. The lesson that I got is: One has to learn to know a higher power than themselves.
You are on a baseball team and you are a good player. G-d is the manager and coach. No matter what, you are not allowed in the game. The team is severly losing and you cannot play. You bother Him, you say to Him, that you can help. All He says to you is sit down. You cannot do anything, so you might as well kick up your feet and sit down and have some popcorn, watch the show and take in the
concequences.
The other thing, if you know G-d or that G-d aready knows you. G-d and the Holy Spirit is warning you to follow what is right and not to go against your instincts. If you are having a problem, and you think you can do the wrong thing, do not do it. If you have to pay a bill and you are short of money, pay the bill anyway. Follow the right path. It is a natural instinct telling you to do the right thing.
For whatever sake;
Do Not Do What just is Not Wrong.
Do What is Right!
Talk to G-d. Ask G-d and Jesus (If you are Christian) and the Holy Spirit into your heart. Then listen to your heart. Not your brain, for it will cause you to do the wrong thing. Pray about it. If it overtakes you in the middle of the night, wake up, think about it, go back to sleep, and do what you have to do in the morning. If it is on a Friday, you might as well wait until Monday, because you cannot do a thing about it until Mon.
I have learned this through Temple, Church, the Bible and experience. I once used to dread each day, now I look forward to it. Do what you have to do. If you are with G-d you need not to have any fear, because he is with you. What I am telling you, is years of learning what I had to learn the hard way. No one, even in Religious studies took the time to tell me what I am telling you, and if they did, I was to stubborn and an I-Know-It-All to listen. I have only met a few relligious leaders who had hurt like me, and they could not tell me, what I am telling you.
I watched TV, not a religious station either, it was ABC and I heard once on the morning show, That the Lord's prayer automatically helps to relieve tension. And Psalm 23 relieves pain. I have used them both and it does work. Make your children repeat after you the Lord's prayer line by line. (Sometimes it has to be 3-4 times, before they can repeat it after you correctly.) When it is finally said, your children will be more loving. It is great, when a two year old child wakes up with nigihtmares.
All this stuff does work, and you will find yourself not bothered, your heartbeat will go down, and you will be able to function under all serious or not serious conditions. I have tried medications, but they just make me fat, and I am way to vain for that. G-d does work, and I stay slim with Him.
It will work, the more you follow G-d, the more confidence you will have, and before you know it, you will understand everything I am saying and you will be teaching this to someone else.
The one reason you panic so much is you want the power and you do not have it. Things happen and sometimes we are powerless. We have to trust in a higher power, and learn to realize that we will not always have things in our way and control . When we finally learn that lesson, and learn to deal with what we can do, and what we cannot do, we will finally be in power to handle ourselves. We will always have problems. Now they will be completely under control. The problem is G-d's and you will be able to handle yourself.
The Lord's Prayer:
Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom Come,
Thy Will be done
on Earth and up in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us of our Trespasses
as we forgive those who Trespass against us.
Lead us not into Temptaion
And Deliver us From Evil
For thine is the Power and Glory in the Kingdom Forever.
Amen
When life was very hard for me I used to say:
Life is like a rollercoaster.
We have the big hill and other hills to over come.
When the ride slows down and we think it is over,
It starts up again.
We cannot get off, until we die.
The difference is with G-d.
Without G-d, you get sick, your heart beats fast, you cannot eat, you are constantly nauses and throw-up all the time, and can never sleep.
With G-d he teaches you breathing exercises, how to feel the ride. To make the ride comfortable. How to eat on it, how to sleep on it, and how to enjoy it and even to be happy to be on it.

How can i calm down my anger?
Answer:
when you realise it is up, take a walk. walk around the house, around the block or whatever it takes. meanwhile, do some soul-searching to see what is triggering your angry. solving the root is the cure, but it wont be easy.
take a shower.
i have anger management too.i have few ways of overcoming it...
1) Take your pillow, cover ur face and SCREAM as loud as u can
2) Take a paper write down all the bad things u wanted to say and burn it...watch it burn...
3) Dun hang out with peep, go somewhere quite and take very deep breath
4) Keep a diary ...(helps me alot) and keep it safe
5) Watch something funny.listen to your fave song
6) eat chocolate
7) If possiable sleep .. if nothing helps see a doc
hope that help ...good luck pal
just keep quit when you get anger and try to avoid takling with others and just recollect the things which makes you that may be your pet.
Try it you will find a good result.
==========ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR FUTURE========
there is a very effective way to calm down anger, which is also scientifically proven. if you are angry and u are standing, your body produces a hormone that goes into a fight or flight position, if you stay standing it triggers the fight aspect and makes you angrier. if you sit down, this hormone's activity gets imbalanced, and goes into the flight mode making you calmer. if you were already sitting down, lie down. this has been quoted centuries ago, by the Muslim Prophet Mohammed PBUH, that if you are angry and standing sit, and if you were already sitting, lie down. and amazingly scientists have just uncovered the science behind it. it really helps alot!
walk
Imagine yourself as a contestant on Jerry Springer. Imagine that if you did the thing in anger you wanted to do, people would laugh at you and call you nameslike they do the contestants on that show. Angry people are like circus freaks and people like to stop and stare and point and throw peanuts...well, maybe not throw peanuts, but you get the point. They like to talk about you and laugh at you behind your back. Do you REALLY want to be laughed at and subjected to ridicule? Those contestants truly look like idiots when they lose it and you DON'T want people to think that about you, do you?
This sounds crazy, but it's the ONLY thing that keeps me from running over people with my car on occasion...because I've got a certain image to uphold-lol.
See the section on anger management at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris... on page 4.
How can I become more self-motivated?
Answer:
hullo
first, you should have a goal or target, that is to say,a positive stimulus in order to achieve a desired response.
lack of motivation in general may undermine depression.
Dr solo
There are different ways to increase motivation. Your question is too vague, I need more details to give you some suggestions.
How can I become more reliable?
I don't know if it was the way I was raised, or my birth order, or what other occult influence in my life...but I seem to be very unreliable. I am a good person who wants to help others...but when I volunteer myself or my time to those who need me...I seem to always let them down. Perhaps there is a bit of depression and low self-esteem coloring this perception, but I am looking for just general common sense advice on how I can become a man true to his word...a man who is reliable and responsible.
Answer:
Decide in advance that you ARE a reliable man. Actually speak those words to yourself in front of the mirror when you get up in the morning, at midday, and before you go to bed.
Do NOT accept any requests that you have any inkling that you may not be able to fulfill.
Start small. Agree to something you KNOW you can accomplish, and FOLLOW THROUGH. Keep accumulating these small victories. When you feel you are ready, move on to accepting other requests which may require more of your time.
The key is to DECIDE IN ADVANCE that you are a reliable, trustworthy man. Do NOT accept a task/assignment/request unless you are 100% sure you can and will see it through to the end.
Best of luck,
~M~
write everything down in a checklist with a due time on them. i am def. a procrastinator and when i really need to get htings done this is what i do. prioritize your list and have all the things you need to do in front of you. maybe also make of the list of things you want to do instead and then you can have a system where if you check off one item of obligations then you can do one of the fun things. you will feel good about yourself when you check something off- guarunteed!
Be like me--conscientious--constantly alert and attentive to your inner conscience, which is God's searchlight of your soul.
It seems to be a very serious question you are asking. It does mean that you care and that you want to be of help but cannot due to various reasons which you are relating to other factors. Firstly, you have to stop thinking about any one having any effect on you, it is you and you who is wholely and solely responsible. No occult influences, birth orders or the way you were raised can be held responsible for any irresponsibility. It is all in the mind decide and do it, do not be afraid of people or consider there reactions to something you believe to be good. Intend good and do good and just do it, slowly you will gain confidence. It is just a step away, first time you will hesitate the next time you will feel better with more self esteem and self respect. Try it. All the best
Be connected with God and you will have esteem for yourself.
God can help you to be a reliable and good person you want to be.
God loves you and you are precious to Him. Jesus died on the Cross to save us from condemnation; we therefore have hope of Heaven as our eternal home.
Never miss Heaven for anything in this world.
Just do it. It is hard for everyone to follow through at least once in a while. Being un-reliable is not a disease it is a choice. You are responsible for every single choice you make. Just remember that. Also ,Do not agree to things you can't/don't want to do.You'll be alright!
Use better words and phrases that better fit all of the outcomes you can give. It will take practice maybe even prewriting the words down in a book.
